TWO OUTSTANDING NEWSPAPER ARTICLES

TWO FEATURES in the Roanoke Times & World-News Feb. 18 were certainly outstanding.

One is that article on the disgraceful irreverance displayed by some groups that have been holding their drunken revelries in the neighborhood of Primitive Baptist Church in the Cave Spring area. Such conduct is a living shame on an area in which the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the Bible have been known for as long a period as in Roanoke County.

The other is this excellent presentation regarding the outstanding Virginia Military Institute. I very much hope that VMI wins its right not to be unnecessarily interfered with by any government department, governor or anyone else. For 150 years that great school has been rendering marvelous service to this state and nation. That service climaxed in giving to the U.S. Army the finest chief of staff it has ever had, the immortal George Catlett Marshall. It seems evident to me that the ideals and standards of the immortal "Stonewall" Jackson still prevail on that campus.\ W.R. VAIDEN LEXINGTON
