ROANOKE MAN BEATEN IN ROBBERY ATTEMPT

A Roanoke man was approached by two would-be robbers and beaten early this morning after he had car trouble in Northwest Roanoke, police said.

Wayne McArthur Campbell, 47, told police that his car broke down on 5th Street about 2:50 a.m.

As he was trying to repair his car, Campbell said he was approached by two men who knocked him to the ground and tried to take his wallet.

Campbell was able to escape from the assailants and called police from a nearby restaurant, police said.

Campbell was not seriously injured, and an investigation is continuing.
