SEN. JOHN WARNER TO SPEAK AT PULASKI BANQUET

PULASKI - U.S. Sen. John W. Warner will be in Pulaski for an evening banquet address Tuesday.

The senator will appear at a reception at the Elks Club. He will speak at the 7 p.m. dinner, said Dorothy Sheffey, who helped arrange the visit.

A former secretary of the Navy and chairman of the U.S. Bicentennial Commission, Warner was elected in 1978 and re-elected in 1984.

Warner, the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, is expected to address the anticipated reduction of the defense budget after the collapse of Communist rule in Eastern Europe and expansion of democracy in Central America and possible consequences to Western Virginia, including the Radford Arsenal.

The Gerry Atkinson Memorial Citizenship Award also will be presented during the meeting.

Del. Tommy Baker, R-Radford, is expected to make brief remarks, according to the committee.

Reservations should be made by Friday through Sybil Atkinson, 980-5957, or Dot Sheffey, 674-6297.
