BEDFORD RESIDENT INDICTED IN KILLING

A 23-year-old Bedford man was indicted Tuesday in the November slaying of 51-year-old Jimmy Vea Spinner.

David Warren Hawkins was indicted on a charge of murder and a firearms charge in Spinner's shooting death, which investigators say occurred when Hawkins' truck got stuck in a ditch on a rural road and Spinner offered to help out.

Hawkins, who worked at Rubatex, is scheduled to appear for trial in Bedford County Circuit Court July 12 and 13.
