ROANOKE AREA BULLISH ON HIRING

A larger percentage of Roanoke area employers plan to hire in the second quarter than in the South and in the nation, according to a quarterly Manpower Inc. survey.

In the April-June quarter, 27 percent plan to expand their work force, none plans cuts and the remaining 73 percent see no change.

The hiring outlook for the Roanoke area is better than a year ago when 23 percent said they would add employees.

Expanded hiring plans were reported by 26 percent of those surveyed in both the South and the nation. The best job opportunities in the Roanoke area are in construction, manufacturing and services, the Manpower survey said.
