HUD AIDE MAY GET IMMUNITY FOR TESTIMONY

Congressional investigators are expected to announce today that they will seek immunity for a former top aide to Samuel Pierce, the Reagan administration's secretary of Housing and Urban Development, in exchange for what the investigators say will be some of the most damaging testimony to date about Pierce's role in political favoritism probe at the housing department.

The former aide, Dubois L. Gilliam, is serving an 18-month prison term on federal conspiracy charges involving abuse of HUD programs.

His onetime colleagues at the housing department say Gilliam, once a deputy assistant secretary who was in line to be Pierce's executive assistant, has a "photographic memory" and enjoyed unusual access to the secretary.
