HALE, HAROLD W. RICHMOND - Harold Williamson Hale, age 90, of Richmond, Va.,
died in a Richmond nursing home on Thursday, March 8, 1990. Born on August 22,
1899, in Giles County, Va., he was the son of the late Herbert Williams and
Mary Symns Hale. Mr. Hale was retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1966 and
had been a previous Postmaster of Narrows, Va. He moved to Lynchburg in 1977
and to Richmond in 1984. A life-long member of the First United Methodist
Church in Narrows, he was on the Board of Stewards and was Superintendent of
Sunday School for many years. He was the secretary of the Narrows Kiwanis Club
for two decades. He was a member and past master of the Intermont Lodge #269
A.F. & A.M. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Coburn Hale and
several sisters and brothers. He is survived by a daughter, Charlotte H.
Gammon, Richmond; one sister, Armande G. Hale, Seattle, Wash.; two
grandchildren, Caroline Gammon MacDonald, Fairfax County; R. Christopher
Gammon, London, England; two great-granddaughters. Funeral services will be
conducted Saturday, March 10, at 2:00 p.m. at the Riffe's Funeral Chapel,
Narrows, with the Rev. Ralph M. Kidd officiating. Interment will follow at
Fairview Cemetery, Narrows. The family will receive friends Friday from 7:00
to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the
First United Methodist Church, Narrows, or to a charity of choice.
