MILITARY OFFICIALS PROBE SKELETON FIND

An off-duty Marine discovered a human skeleton while hiking in a wooded area of the Quantico Marine Corps base, Marine officials said Thursday.

"We can't speculate whether there's indication of foul play," Marine spokesman Master Sgt. Marv Price said.

Marine officials said the remains found Wednesday appear to be an adult, but they cannot say yet whether they are male or female. A coroner will examine the bones, Price said.

Military police and the Naval Investigative Service are investigating the possibility the remains could be those of a male soldier who disappeared in December 1987. An intensive three-week search was conducted, but he never was found.
