DOCTOR WITH AIDS DROPS SUIT AGAINST HOSPITAL

A doctor who had accused a New York City hospital of negligence after she contracted AIDS dropped her lawsuit Thursday, settling for an undisclosed amount of money.

Dr. Veronica Prego, 32, contended that she had developed the disease after accidentally puncturing her finger on a syringe needle in Kings County Hospital Center in Brooklyn.

Her lawyers said she would be well taken care of by the settlement, which is to be paid by the city's Health and Hospitals Corp. None of the participants acknowledged any negligence. After the settlement, four of the jurors indicated they had been leaning toward Prego.
