SUSPECTED SPY SEEKS U.S. REINSTATEMENT

Career diplomat Felix Bloch, suspected of spying for the Soviet Union but never charged, is appealing his dismissal from the U.S. Foreign Service.

Bloch has asked for a review of his case before a three-member panel of Foreign Service officers to rebut the accusation he is a security risk. A date for the private hearing will be set later.

The State Department announced on Feb. 8 that Bloch had been suspended, that his annual salary of $80,700 was being withheld and that steps were being taken to fire him.
