STERN, MARY E. COATESVILLE, PA. - Mary Ellen D. Stern, 64, of Coatesville, died Monday, March 5, at the Devon Manor in Devon, Pa. She was the wife of Ellis E. Stern, Jr. She was born in Shenandoah, Va., the daughter of Mary Akers Koontz, Elkton, Va., and the late Harley K. Dulaney. Mrs. Stern was a graduate of the Shenandoah High School and the Mary Washington Collge in Fredricksburg, Va. She was a teacher and had taught in the Henrico County School System from 1947 until 1950. She was also employed by the E.I. Dupont Co. in Wilmington, Del., as a secretary from 1950 until 1955. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Trinity in Coatesville where she was active in the church choir and altar guild. She was a former board member of the Mary Washington Foundation, the American Association of University Women, past president of the Town & Country Garden Club, a member of the Coatesville Country Club, the Century Club in Coatesville, the Board of Directors of the Brandywine Home Heath Care Service and the United Way Committee of Chester County. She also served as chairman for the development committee of Brandywine Hospital, former president of the Women Auxiliary of the Brandywine Hospital and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Beside her husband and mother she is survived by two daughters, Alison S. Wood, Boston, Mass.; Anne L. Tilley, Herndon, Va.; one grandson, two sisters, Connie Waters, Abingdon, Va.; Elizabeth Ramsey, Staunton, Va.; a brother, Harley K. Dulaney, Jacksonville, Fla.; her mother-in-law, Anna M. P. Stern, Coatesville. Services will be held in Coatesville on Saturday.
