Teague Edward Allen, 19, of 11099 Rocky Road on Bent Mountain and Thomas Corbin Crowe, 19, of Bent Mountain Road were dead at the scene of the 7:30 p.m. accident.
Crowe, the passenger in the car, was thrown from the vehicle. It took rescue workers more than an hour to remove Allen from the car, which was broken in two by the impact.
The 1980 Datsun sports car in which they were riding crossed the center line and crashed into the truck, which hauled Rainbow Bread, said Roanoke County Sheriff's Sgt. Roger Robinson.
Columbus Bryant of Route 1, Buchanan, the driver of the truck, received minor cuts and bruises.
"There was an indication that speed was a factor," Robinson said.
The accident occurred near Apple Grove Lane as the car came out of a sharp curve near a 35-mph zone.
Robinson said the tractor-trailer driver tried to avoid the collision. Witnesses said they heard screeching brakes before the accident, which sounded like "an explosion."
Remnants of the car were scattered in yards along the road.
