ART CLASSES START TUESDAY

Spring classes at the Roanoke Museum of Fine Arts will get under way Tuesday with an adult papermaking workshop taught by Pattie Neal.

Other classes are planned, for both youngsters and adults, in drawing and painting, fabric painting and photography.

In addition, there is a series of critiques for experienced painters. Artist Peyton Klein is leading the critiques, which already are under way.

Those interested in the classes should contact the museum at 342-5760 for registration details, class times, fees and other information.

Neal's adult papermaking class will meet for one session only. Students will make sheets of paper, jewelry and cast items. Materials will be provided.

There will be a papermaking class for youth (ages 9-12), also taught by Neal, starting Saturday and continuing for four weekly sessions. A series of drawing and painting classes for children aged 6-8 will start Saturday and continue for eight weeks. Annie Waldrop will teach it. In addition to experimenting in the classroom, students will examine works in the museum and discuss the media and design techniques of 20th century artists.

Jeff Steele and Eileen McCaul-Basham will teach a course in alternative photographic processes starting Seturday and continuing for one session the following weekend. It is intended for those aged 13-18.

Steele and McCaul-Basham will teach the course for adults, one session only, on April 2.

A course for adults in figure drawing will start April 2 and run for eight sessions on Monday and Wednesday evenings. Tuition will cover model fees but students must provide their own materials. Jim Hudson will be the instructor.

Peggy DeBell will teach a class April 21 in painting on T-shirts and muslin fabric. It is intended for those aged 14 and older, including adults. Some materials will be provided but students should being a lunch and their own T-shirts.

All classes will take place in the museum's education center. It is on the second floor of Center on Church at 210 E. Church Ave. in downtown Roanoke.

\ ***Correction Published Mar. 14, 1990*** Because of a reporter's error, a story in March 10's Extra section listed an incorrect date for a class in alternative photographic processes. The class, conducted by Jeff Steele and Eileen McCaul-Basham, will be held on Saturday, April 7, at the Roanoke Museum of Fine Arts.
