In one case, an Elliston man was sentenced to four years in prison and five years' probation on conviction of sexually assaulting his 5-year-old son last June.
The 27-year-old father, whose name is not being published to protect his son's identity, pleaded guilty to charges of forcible sodomy and sexual abuse of a child. He had been indicted in October and has been in the Montgomery County Jail.
The child, who waved to his father and sister as he was escorted into the courtroom, started crying when Judge Kenneth Devore asked him questions.
The father was charged with bringing his son to his home in Graham's Trailer Park on June 21 and fondling him while they took a shower together. After the shower, he took his son into the bedroom where he sexually assaulted him, Commonwealth's Attorney Phil Keith told the judge.
The boy had been living in Bedford with his mother, court records said.
The sentence was based on a plea agreement between Keith and the defense attorney, Dutton Olinger.
In the other case, a Christiansburg man admitted to having sex with a 13-year-old Radford girl at his apartment last August.
Michael Wayne Caldwell, 27, who was indicted on a statutory rape charge in January, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months in jail.
The girl came to Caldwell's apartment at 599 Depot St. on Aug. 22 where they had "voluntary sexual intercourse," Keith said. Caldwell had told authorities that the girl had told him she was 19, but the girl had told authorities that she told Caldwell she was 14.
Caldwell was arrested in September after he was abducted at gunpoint from his apartment. The car in which Caldwell and three others were riding was stopped in Christiansburg.
Caldwell was charged with raping a minor. The victim's mother, whose name is not being published to protect her daughter's identity, and Richard K. Marshall, 37, of Hillsville and Kenneth M. Kaye, 42, of Floyd, were charged with abducting Caldwell. They were indicted in January and are awaiting trial.
