OFFICE TOWER COULD BE BUILT ON STILTS

AS A FORMER resident of Roanoke, I read with interest R.L. Carter's article on the demolition and/or relocation of the Hunter Viaduct. I, like most people, think it's a shame, and it certainly would be a traffic inconvenience if the viaduct is removed.

New York City had a similar problem with the New York Port Authority, which planned to erect a building on the site of a major highway. The New York City Council, with the assistance of the Port Authority, solved the problem by accepting a building designed on stilts to span the highway, and without interrupting traffic.

It seems to me that with the fine architects avilable in this area, such a building could be designed and erected to accomplish the same results.\ JOHN G. EGGLESTON MARION
