NAMES & CHANGES

DONALD DEDMON, president of Radford University, has been appointed to the regional board of directors Dedmon for Central Fidelity Bank's Southwestern Region. Dedmon is also chairman of the board of directors of St. Albans Psychiatric Hospital and a member of the Radford City Chamber of Commerce and Radford University's Foundation board of directors. Dedmon has been at the university since 1972; he also serves as a professor of speech.

\ ROBERT M. FREEMAN has been named chairman and chief executive officer of Signet Banking Corp., effective March 31. He joined the bank as vice president in 1971. Freeman was named president of Signet Bank/Virginia and the parent company in 1978, and vice chairman of Signet Banking Corporation in 1986. He succeeds Frederick Deane Jr., who is retiring as chairman of the board. Malcolm S. McDonald has been named president. He joined Signet in 1970 and served as president of its Northern Virginia affiliate from 1976-1977. McDonald was named executive vice president in 1981.

\ THOMAS E. MITCHELL has been elected assistant secretary of accounting and promoted to senior accounting administrator at Appalachian Power Co. He joined Apco in 1984 as an accounting staff assistant senior.

\ J.C. LANFORD, president of Adams Construction Co., has been elected senior vice chairman of the American Road and Transportation Builders Association.

\ S. SUTTON FLYTHE JR., senior vice president and commercial account manager, has been named head of the new Professional and Executive Unit of Crestar Bank-Martinsville. Flythe has been with the bank since 1960 when it was The First National Bank of Martinsville and Henry County.

\ ANNE C. SHUMATE, formerly of Roanoke, has been promoted to consumer banking officer at Sovran Bank in Harrisonburg. She joined the bank in 1988 as a management associate and was named personal banker in 1989.
