152 PLAYERS TO EARN $1 MILLION OR MORE

The average salary in 1990 will be $557,000, according to management estimates, a $60,000 increase from the end of last year.

The increase between seasons is the highest ever by dollar amount and represents a 12 percent boost from the 1989 average of $497,254.

It would have been even higher except that many players hedged against the owners' lockout by agreeing to multiyear contracts with large signing bonuses and lower 1990 salaries. According to a computer projection by the owners' Player Relations Committee, the average would have been $592,000 without the large signing bonuses.

There will be 152 players making $1 million or more this season and 27 making $2 million or more, including Milwaukee's Robin Yount - the only $3 million player, at $3.2 million. That's up from 106 $1 million players last season and 20 $2 million players in 1989.
