J. Irvin Routt, Sr., age 78, of Roanoke, died Saturday. He had retired from
the Roanoke Times and World News with forty five years of service, was a
member of St. Andrews Catholic Church and a life member of Elks Club, B.P.O.E.
#197. Surviving are his wife, Georgie Routt; son and daughter-in-law, J. Irvin
and Kay Routt, Jr. of Roanoke; also five grandsons, Martin Routt, Tampa, Fla.;
David G., Morgan, Allen, and Kenneth Routt, all of Roanoke; two sisters, Viola
Lemon, Roanoke; Dorothy Sarver, Mechanicsville; two brothers, Herbert L.
Routt, Newport News; W. Edward Routt, Sr., Salem; also several nieces and
nephews. There will be a prayer service, Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 7:00 p.m.
Monday. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel 10:30
a.m. Tuesday, March 13, 1990, with the Rev. William S. O'Brien officiating.
Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family suggests that in
lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Williamson Road Life
Saving Crew. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
