SHAWSVILLE TEACHER CHOSEN FOR VA. PROJECT

Karen Coston, a government teacher at Shawsville High and Middle School, was recently selected to participate in the 1989-90 Virginia Law and Government Project along with 39 other teachers statewide. Participants were selected based on qualifications, professional experience and commitment to education.

The project consists of three one-day seminars in Richmond during the school year and a week-long summer institute. Speakers for the first one-day seminar included Virginia Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth Lacy and Chief Deputy Attorney General Lane Kneedler. All seminars are designed to enhance knowledge of state government.

The program will culminate with a publication of teaching strategies for government compiled by the teachers titled, "Lesson Sampler on Virginia Law and Government," scheduled for publication in October 1990.
