IRS RULINGS AFFECT PLANNING, JOB TRAVEL

There has been good news and bad news from the Internal Revenue Service.

The nation's tax collector has given a break to people who commute to various temporary work locations. Particularly affected are doctors, architects and other professionals who visit patients or clients.

On the other hand, the IRS has made it much more expensive to get an advance evaluation, called a private letter ruling, of the tax consequences of a transaction or strategy a taxpayer may be considering. - Washington Post
