WIS. EDUCATOR TO BE PRESIDENT AT VCU

Virginia Commonwealth University today named a University of Wisconsin administrator to serve as its fourth president beginning in July.

Eugene P. Trani, 50, has been overseeing one of the largest university systems in the nation as vice president for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin. The school includes 26 campuses with 160,000 students and 7,000 faculty members and a large medical complex in Madison, Wis.

VCU, a state-supported school near downtown Richmond, has 20,000 students, 1,700 full- and part-time faculty members and a medical school, the Medical College of Virginia. VCU is the largest urban public university in the state.
