JUNIOR LANCERS TEAM WINS CHARLOTTE TOURNEY

The Junior Lancers Squirt Hockey Team won the championship for the 10-11 age division in the Queen City Invitational Ice Hockey Tournament, held recently in Charlotte, N.C.

In the round-robin event, the Roanoke team defeated a Charlotte team 3-2 and a Raleigh, N.C., team 3-0. The Junior Lancers then tied 1-1 with a team from Atlanta. The championship game, against Atlanta, ended in a 3-3 tie. The teams then proceeded to a "shootout" of three shots against each goalie. The Junior Lancers won the shootout.

Scottie Baker was the leading scorer, with five goals, for the Roanoke team, followed by Steve Hamlin with three.

The Pee Wee team also represented the Roanoke Valley Youth Hockey Association, placing second in the 12-13 age division.
