She will be the keynote speaker for the research portion of the session, which is expected to draw horticultural experts from throughout the nation.
The symposium, "The Role of Horticulture in Human Development," is being sponsored by Virginia Tech and several horticultural associations.
Rep. Rick Boucher, D-Abington, will speak at the opening session at 7 p.m. April 19.
On April 20, Candice Shoemaker of Virginia Tech will be the moderator of an afternoon session on "Plants and Human Culture."
