CONSORTIUM BEGUN TO LURE MORE VISITORS

Five Southwest Virginia counties have formed a consortium to identify tourism sites and produce a video for use in bringing visitors to the region.

Chambers of commerce in Bland, Carroll, Grayson, Smyth and Wythe counties are participating in the venture, along with Jefferson National Forest, New River Trail Park, Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, the state tourism board and Wytheville Community College.

The video will cover historic sites, special events, recreational areas and other points of interest. It is designed for use in economic development activities, training and education, and for sale to interested groups and individuals. It is scheduled for completion in December.

People with information on items that could be of interest to tourists have been asked to give the data to Williamson at the college by March 30. Items can be mailed to 1000 E. Main St., Wytheville 24382, or relayed by telephone (228-5541 locally or toll-free elsewhere 1-800-468-1195).
