CARROLL SUPERVISORS REJECT TOURISM GROUP

The Carroll County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday to pull out of a joint tourism task force with Grayson County and the city of Galax.

"Some of this regional stuff's all right," said Supervisor J. Eddie Vaughn, who made the motion. But with plans for an interpretive mountain music center nearby on the Blue Ridge Parkway and other attractions, he said, he felt tourists would come here anyway. "We're just wasting our time."

Carroll had not decided whether to put $5,000 into the joint effort, as Grayson County and Galax had done, but the county's withdrawal from the task force takes care of that decision. Carroll budgets $5,000 for tourism promotion within the county.
