FOES OF SUPERVISOR DROP LEGAL CHALLENGE

Seven citizens who went to court to keep Washington County Supervisor Maurice Parris from resuming his seat on the board, after resigning at his first meeting in January, have decided to let the matter drop.

Parris returned to the board in January and said his temporary resignation had been prompted over concern that his job at Johnston Memorial Hospital here might have been at risk if he was on the board. His concerns were later put to rest.

The board had not accepted Parris' resignation because, at that first meeting, practically every vote - even acceptance of the minutes of the previous meeting - met with a 3-3 deadlock.
