STATE COLLEGES BOARD CHOOSES NEW CHANCELLOR

The state Board of Community Colleges on Thursday named David R. Pierce chancellor of the 23-school system.

Pierce has been executive director of the Illinois Community College Board since 1980. In 1984 and 1985 he was chairman of the National Council of State Directors of Community and Junior Colleges.

Pierce replaces Jeff Hockaday, who took a job with the Pima County Community College District in Tucson, Ariz.

Pierce was selected from among four finalists. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from California State University at Long Beach and a doctorate in mathematics education from Purdue University.
