Seminar canceled

"Love Your Mother (Earth)," a women's seminar scheduled for Saturday at The Women's Center at Hollins College has been canceled. It has not been rescheduled.

Symphony After Five, a support group of the Roanoke Symphony, will hold a St. Patrick's Day celebration on Monday, from 5:30-7 p.m. at First Virginia Bank-Southwest.

Admission is $5 and includes refreshments. Reservations can be made by calling the Roanoke Symphony at 343-9127.

Grants for arts projects

The Arts Council of Roanoke Valley will provide financial assistance for special projects in the arts and is accepting proposals for consideration.

Grants will be made to help individual artists attend conferences, seminars or workshops; to support community or school residencies; and for other arts-related projects.

There is no formal application form, nor is there a deadline. Requests will be reviewed as they are received.

The written proposals should clearly explain how a grant would be used and how the applicant would benefit from arts council support.

Proposals should be sent to The Arts Council of Roanoke Valley, Center on Church, 20 E. Church Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24011.

Theatre IV of Richmond will present "Shake Hands With Shakespeare" Wednesday in the Business Science Auditorium at Virginia Western Community College.

The program will begin at 11 a.m. It will include scenes from Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," "Julius Ceasar" and "A Midsummer Night's Dream." The program is open to the public. There will be no charge for admission, but groups are asked to make reservations by calling 857-7390.
