WISCONSIN EDUCATOR TAKES VCU TOP JOB

Eugene P. Trani accepted the presidency of Virginia Commonwealth University on Thursday.

Trani, 50, vice president for academic affairs at the University of Wisconsin, said he will focus on improving VCU's academics and the diversity of its student body when he takes over July 1.

Trani, hired by The VCU Board of Visitors as the school's fourth president, will succeed retiring President Edmund F. Ackell, who has held the job since 1978.
