GERMANS PAID DUES, TIME FOR REUNIFICATION

IT IS REFRESHING to know that Paxton Davis (article Feb. 23) has no influence in the unavoidable events for a United Germany. West Germany has been a reliable U.S. ally and a stalwart world citizen since World War II. It has made and still makes reparations in many ways for the Nazi regime's reprehensible action, and God knows when that will ever end.

Therefore, all Germans should have the legitimate right to be a united people and free from occupations. I believe that the German people paid their dues for the last 45 years of Allied domination; and that the time has come to reach an agreement with the victors of World War II to create a free, united, and neutral Germany without obligations to militaristic alliances in any form.

For Germany, a mandated alliance to NATO or Warsaw Pact countries could become an unsurmountable problem at a peace treaty summit with victors of World War II.

Maybe Davis has an answer to that.\ SIEGFRIED WERNER\ BUENA VISTA
