YALE RUSSIAN CHORUS TO SING AT EMORY

The Yale Russian Chorus, a men's group from New Haven, Conn., will give a concert at Emory & Henry College Monday at 8 p.m. in Memorial Chapel.

It will perform a mix of sacred, secular and traditional music of the Soviet Union. The group, which includes undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, staff and alumni of Yale University, was formed 36 years ago when Denis Mickiewicz gave a lesson in Russian music to a group of Russian-language students.

Mickiewicz, who thought music was best understood when heard rather than discussed, went to class with an armload of sheet music and soon had the students chanting and singing. That lecture spawned the chorus, which has sung around the world including the Soviet Union. - Southwest bureau
