9-TON DRUG BUST BRINGS 1-OUNCE PLEA BARGAIN

Two men arrested in a nine-ton cocaine bust - described as the nation's second-largest - pleaded guilty Friday to a reduced charge of possessing less than one ounce of cocaine.

Prosecutor Ed Cyganiewicz said he agreed to the plea bargain because he feared the state court jury might give a lenient sentence or even probation. Jurors might have been sympathetic because the defendants worked only as "mules," or laborers, for drug kingpins who aren't in custody, he said. - Associated Press
