Top-ranked Oklahoma will not soon forget the Tar Heels, who are making their 10th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament's round of 16.
North Carolina sent the Sooners out of the basketball tournament Saturday night when Rick Fox hit a layup with one second left to give the Tar Heels a 79-77 victory in a second-round Midwest Regional game at Austin, Texas.
North Carolina (21-12), third in the ACC during the regular season, will play seventh-ranked Arkansas (28-4) on Thursday night at Reunion Arena in Dallas.
"We hadn't even thought of Dallas and now we're going," said Smith, who has a 43-20 record in NCAA Tournament play. "We're fortunate. We played our best game of the year against Oklahoma. I'd like to thank the Texas fans for cheering for us. Maybe they'll be cheering in Dallas, too."
As he was leaving the court after the upset over Oklahoma, Smith spied Arkansas center Mario Credit before the Razorbacks' game against Dayton, and said, "You'd rather play us than Oklahoma."
Game times will come
