SYRINGES FOUND IN SOUP SOLD AT STORE COUNTERS

Richmond-area grocery stores closed their self-service soup counters Monday after cocaine-tainted syringes were found in soup kettles in three suburban stores.

Public health officials asked the stores to close the soup counters.

The first syringe was discovered last Tuesday in a kettle of prepared soup in a Ukrop's store in Chesterfield County. Two more used syringes were found in soup containers in two other stores Saturday morning.
