The Roanoke Regional Job Fair, the first of its kind in the area, is designed to acquaint black students with opportunities in "local, home-grown businesses," said David Herbert, executive director of the Cabell Brand Center, a fair sponsor.
The job fair evolved from a September get-acquainted meeting among black students, Roanoke Mayor Noel Taylor and other civic and business leaders at the Harrison Heritage and Cultural Center, Herbert said.
Businesses represented at the fair will talk with seniors about opportunities for immediate employment after graduation. Juniors and sophomores can learn about internships and summer job opportunities, he said.
The job fair will be Thursday from 2:30 until 6 p.m. at the Patrick Henry Hotel in downtown Roanoke.
Students should register through campus placement offices. Students are asked to bring resumes and to dress appropriately for job interviews.
