FEDERAL JUDGE CLEARED ON ONE OF 8 CHARGES

U.S. District Judge Robert Aguilar, the first federal judge charged with racketeering, was acquitted of one obstruction-of-justice charge. But a jury deadlocked on seven other felony charges after seven days of deliberations.

Justice Department prosecutor William Keefer said Aguilar would be retried on the seven charges.

Aguilar was acquitted of a charge that he improperly approached another federal judge, Samuel Conti, to seek favorable treatment for a friend and creditor, Ronald Cloud, in a pending bank fraud trial.
