TWO CHARGED IN THEFTS FROM COIN MACHINES

Two men arrested on charges of breaking into coin machines at a Carroll County car wash Monday night also are facing charges in Wythe, Pulaski and Grayson counties as well as in North Carolina.

Robert J. Morris, 18, of Allisonia and Billy Joe Mabe, 20, of Hillsville, are charged with 13 counts of petty larceny in a series of newspaper box coin thefts in Wythe County, according to Investigator Jeff Ratliff of the Wythe County Sheriff's Department.

Hillsville Police Chief Kenny Sharpe said as many as 100 larceny charges are pending against the men in connection with break-ins and thefts that have happened within the past month.

Morris also is charged with destruction of property in Monday night's theft from a newspaper box at Blair's Store in Ivanhoe.
