POLICE ACADEMY HEAD CHARGED WITH DUI

The head of the Roanoke Police Academy was charged with drunken driving in Roanoke County Saturday night.

Lt. John Sherman Barrett, 43, of the 100 block of Carrollton Avenue, Salem, also was charged with refusing to take a blood-alcohol test, according to warrants on file in Roanoke County General District Court.

Barrett was stopped by Roanoke County Deputy T.W. Kincaid at 11:40 p.m. on Woodhaven Road at Thirlane Drive, according to the warrant.
