DEEP CREEK GUARD GOING TO ROANOKE

Coach Page Moir made his first score of the recruiting season Wednesday with the announcement that Deep Creek High player Jamara Jones had decided to attend Roanoke College.

Jones, a 6-foot point guard, averaged 10 points, two assists, two steals and two rebounds for the Hornets, who finished ranked among the top 10 teams in Group AAA.

"I think we're on to a good recruiting class, and he [Jones] is definitely a prize catch for the first one," Moir said.

Moir, who just completed his first season at Roanoke, loses starting point guard Nick Proctor from the 1989-90 squad that finished 15-12. The Maroons will lose four senior guards after next season.

"I'm real fired up about Jamara," Moir said. "He can play either the point or the two guard. We need to recruit three or four quality guards."

Moir said Jones ranked in the top 10 percent of his class of 300 at Deep Creek and is a member of the National Honor Society.
