Nicholson was appointed to the position by the executive board of the chamber last week. She officially assumed her duties March 20.
She replaces Judy Molique, who is now employed by the county.
Nicholson most recently worked at Giles Memorial Hospital in its marketing and public relations department.
She was a state employee for nine years while living in Richmond.
Her experience includes working as an assistant economist and planner with the state Department of Planning and Budget. That work involved a great deal of writing and working as a team member on feasibility plans, she said.
Nicholson said she looks forward to being involved in the future of Giles County.
"There's just so much going on in Giles County right now. In the last couple of years there have been changes in the leadership of the different county and town governments," she said.
"I'm anxious to do more for the county."
Nicholson is one of 24 county residents involved in the first Giles County Leadership Training Program which educates participants on local governmental functions and community needs.
Nicholson moved to Giles County almost eight years ago and lives in Staffordsville with her husband Brad, who has his own business and is on staff at Giles Memorial, and their children Bret, 10 and Reid, 7.
