BE AWARE; SET, ENFORCE LIMITS

Campus escorts can prevent rapes by strangers, but what can prevent sexual assaults by boyfriends, friends or acquaintances?

"They must be aware of some things that might lead to an abusive situation," said Colleen Mathias, coordinator of the Rape Crisis Program for the New River Valley Women's Resource Center.

Here are some preventive measures and warnings the center offers students:

Set limits with dates or boyfriends. Be firm in enforcing these limits.

If it is a first date or a double date, stay where there are other people nearby until you learn more about your date and establish the limits.

Victims are not vulnerable because of their looks, but because of the situations they find themselves in.

Don't let yourself become physically isolated.
