LADY ASTOR'S GRANDSON TO VISIT BIRTHPLACE

Lady Nancy Langhorne Astor's grandson will visit in May the birthplace of his grandmother, the first woman to sit in Britain's House of Parliament.

During their visit May 17 and 18, Viscount William Waldorf Astor III and his wife, Annabelle, will tour the house and attend a party in their honor by the group restoring the late-19th century home.

The viscount's grandmother was born in Danville on May 19, 1879.

The former Nancy Langhorne Shaw married the Second Viscount Waldorf Astor in 1906. As a liberal member of Parliament for 25 years, she gained a reputation as a temperance advocate. She died in 1964.

Members of the Astor family in England have given more than $33,000 to the effort to restore the house into a museum devoted to Lady Astor's life.
