`MUNCI MEG' TO PLAY THE GRANDIN

"Munci Meg," a production of Lime Kiln Arts in Lexington, will play Roanoke's Grandin Theatre April 1-3.

There will be performances at 2 and 7:30 p.m. April 1 and at 7:30 p.m. April 2 and 3.

"Munci Meg" was written by Don Baker, artistic director at Lime Kiln. It is based on the mountain tale of a young woman who must outwit a giant, a witch and members of her own family. There are similarities to the Appalachian "Jack Tales," which predate white settlement of the mountains, and to an ancient Irish story tale called "Molly and the Giant."

The colorful play employs dance, mime, music and giant puppets, and is intended as entertainment for all ages.

The show was introduced last summer at Lime Kiln, the outdoor theater in Lexington, and was refined during the winter off-season. Several songs have been replaced by new ones, all by Jack Herrick of the Red Clay Ramblers, and the cast has been reduced from nine to six.

Tickets will be $4 for adults and $3 for those age 10 and under. They can be bought in advance through Lime Kiln (463-3074 in Lexington) and will be available by Wednesday (28) at the Books Strings & Things store in Roanoke. Tickets also will be available at the Grandin before each performance.
