The decision to open one lane at 6:30 p.m. was based on the possibility of inclement weather descending on the region in the coming days, said Charles Wright, a maintenance superintendent with the state Department of Transportation.
Wright said predicted rain and snow could cause more problems with the amount of traffic being rerouted up Afton Mountain on U.S. 250 because of the closure of westbound I-64.
The rock slide occurred about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday and damaged two vehicles on the interstate. Neither driver was injured.
