FOURTH-GRADER TURNS IN FIRST `ICE' DRUG IN VA.

A fourth-grade student has turned in what police said Friday was the first evidence of the existence of the new drug "ice" in Virginia.

The boy who found the drug, a student at Hugh Mercer School, brought it to a Fredericksburg police officer who was teaching a drug education class at his school on Monday. The child told officer Karen Stubbs he found the box at a playground.

Ice, a crystalline form of speed that can be smoked, has been billed by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration as more deadly and addictive than crack cocaine. Users can stay high for as long as 14 hours, while a crack high may last for 30 minutes, DEA officials say.
