BASSETT - Doris Pegram Maxey, age 67, of Bassett Heights Extension, Bassett, died Sunday in Memorial Hospital, Martinsville. She was born in Winston-Salem, N. C., August 26, 1922, a daughter of the late Thomas Roger Pegram and Carrie Hines Pegram. For many years, she managed the Western Union Office in Bassett and was assistant manager of Reed's Stores in Bassett until retirement. She was a member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday with interment in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville. The Rev. Sydney Goldfinch and the Rev. Wayne Reich will officiate. The family will receive friends 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday at the church. She is survived by her husband, Jesse Creed Maxey; one daughter, Mrs. Robin Maxey Hinson of Albemarle, N. C.; two sons, Michael Creed Maxey of Salem; Richard Neil Maxey of Walnut Cove, N. C.; four brothers, Richard G. Pegram of Seaford, Del.; Bruce H. Pegram, John T. Pegram and Joseph S. Pegram, all of Bassett; and three grandchildren. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Bassett Rescue Squad or Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church. Arrangements by Collins Funeral Services, Bassett.
