MAKING HERITAGE COME TO LIFE

HOW FORTUNATE we are that there are people in the Roanoke area with a vision to preserve our heritage and make it come alive for all to appreciate. The Explore park will be a unique educational facility, as it recreates a vital time in our country's history.

Already the project has benefited this area by preserving several log buildings to be reconstructed in the Blue Ridge Town. The River Foundation staff and its dedicated volunteers have provided educational and entertaining activities for the public through its festivals and outreach to the schools.

As an educator, I am very excited about the project. My students have had the opportunity to experience things that would not have been possible without Explore: log cabin-building, seeing buffalo up close, and learning about American Indian and pioneer life. Their knowledge of our country's past has been greatly expanded beyond what a textbook could offer. Words and pictures can't match the real thing.

I'm looking forward with great anticipation and excitement to the opening day of the park. BONNIE MANN ROANOKE
