FOUR CHARGED IN ROANOKE, NEW RIVER VALLEY BURGLARIES

Timothy Brian Harless, 19, of the 1600 block of Wayne Street Northeast, Roanoke, and a 16-year-old juvenile from Roanoke whose name was not released because of his age, were arrested early Friday in Salem.

They were spotted in a car leaving the Subway sandwich shop parking lot on West Main Street in Salem about 5:45 a.m. by Salem policeman Richard Philpott.

Philpott pulled into the Subway parking lot and noticed a cash register drawer on the pavement outside, according to Lt. R.E. Gwaltney, head of the Salem detective division.

Philpott followed the car driven by Harless and the juvenile and stopped it a short distance away without a chase, Gwaltney said.

Harless was charged with one count of burglary and one count of grand larceny. The juvenile was charged with five counts of burglary, two counts of grand larceny and one count of petty larceny.

Gwaltney said the two arrests led to the arrest Friday of Donald Wayne Sowers Jr., 22, of the 2700 block of Bowman Street Northwest, Roanoke, and Donald Lee Wooldridge Jr., 24, of the 1900 block of Wayne Street Northeast, Roanoke.

Both Sowers and Wooldridge have been charged with four counts of burglary, one count of grand larceny and one count of petty larceny in connection with several other burglaries.

All four are suspects in another series of approximately 150 burglaries of small businesses over the past year in Salem, Roanoke, Roanoke County, Vinton, Christiansburg and Montgomery County.
