All events will be open to the public free of charge.
The festival's title is Sonoklect. It is taken from "sono," the Italian word for sound, and "klect," the Greek word for eclectic.
There will be eight composers-in-residence for the festival. They are Earle Brown, Ann Callaway, Fred Cohen, Frederick Fox, Don Freund, Chinary Ung, Robert Stewart and Margaret Brouwer.
Brouwer, an assistant professor of music at W&L, is organizer of the festival.
Nine professional musicians will be in residence during the festival and will comprise the Sonoklect Ensemble. They will spend the first three days of the festival rehearsing at Skylark, the school's mountaintop conference center, then will return to the campus for public performances of the work of the visiting composers and selected composition students, and for the seminars and other related events.
More information is available from Margaret Brouwer at (703) 463-8851.
