INDUSTRIAL PARK CONTRACT EXTENDED

City Council has approved a time extension and additional administration and inspection fees for Anderson and Associates for the construction of Radford's industrial park.

Dennis Burton, engineer for Anderson and Associates, requested that the contract be extended by 43 days. He said the contractor, Pendleton Construction Corp., fell behind because of bad weather.

"There was twice as much rain in these months as there normally is" during September and October 1989, Burton said. The rain made the work site too muddy.

If a contractor does not complete a project by the substantial completion date, he must show why there was a delay. The substantial completion date for the industrial park was Dec. 8. With the extension, completion will be in May.

Additional money was requested to pay for construction administration and inspection services that would occur during the extended contract. Council approved $12,200. Burton said it was necessary for the inspector to be more actively involved.

In other business Monday, council:

Delayed action on solid-waste fees for multiple family dwellings of four or more units. This will be on the agenda April 9.

Approved $470 for the city attorney's conference expenses. John B. Spiers Jr. will attend this year's Local Government Attorneys Conference.

Proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month upon request by the New River Valley Community Services Board.

Scheduled a Thursday budget work session with the School Board. Council's previous budget decisions could be affected by the meeting.

Approved the public library's use of a $5,000 gift from the American Library Association. Library personnel can use this money as they see appropriate.
